P1010025These beds are growing a nice alfalfa crop where the tomatoes grew last year.  The alfalfa was sown last fall after the last stake was removed from the tomato crop. We expect to move the chickens onto these beds in early July. They will eat the alfalfa and spread their virtuous droppings to fertilize the soil. The chickens will get about 20% of their nutrition from the alfalfa, the rest comes from the organic chicken food we provide for them every morning and late afternoon.
We irrigate and mow the alfalfa to keep it short and growing strong... Just how the chickens like it.
