Peas yield the most when they are grown up supports such as stakes and twine. Unfortunately a great deal of time is required to stake and tie a crop of peas. With less people available to help us grow our organic crops we have to find ways of growing the crops more efficiently. One of the ways is to change the types of crops we grow such as sowing peas that do not require staking. We will only pick these plantings once or twice, yielding less peas. We have to plant more to make up for the lost yield. Peas have micro fauna on their roots that fix nitrogen from the air. The crop provides fertility for the following crop so planting more peas aids the soil on the farm.
