Come visit us on the farm and stock up for the holiday season from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 18! If you are looking for extra ingredients for your Thanksgiving dinner, you are invited to harvest your own vegetables in the field for a nominal fee. (One of the crew members will be in the field to show you how to harvest in case you're not sure what to do.) It's a great experience to actually see your vegetables growing in the field and to harvest them with your own two hands.
In addition to having the chance to harvest fresh produce, there will be a small market set up in the earth-covered farmhouse. We will have plenty of pasture-raised eggs, freshly-milled heirloom wheat flour, and chicken stock available for purchase. Lorraine will also be selling her probiotic drinks, which are absolutely delicious! The standard hydrosol flavors will be available (rosemary, lavender, rose geranium, and lemon verbena) along with fruit-flavored drinks, such as pomegranate-rose geranium and grape-rosemary. These would be a unique beverage to offer your friends and family at your Thanksgiving dinner, and they are eye-catching in beautiful swing-top glass bottles. If you're looking for holidays gifts, we'll have all of our flavored salts, sugars, hydrosols, sugar body scrubs, essential oils, etc. for sale as well.
A few of your fellow CSA members will be there selling food, too! For instance, Jill and Stephen of Damn Fine Bacon will be at the harvest market with their mouth-watering, savory bacon. And Meghan of Mead & Mead's Maple Syrup will have an array of 100% pure maple syrup for sale. After moving to San Francisco, she and her brother co-founded the company to bring their family's syrup to the Bay Area from Connecticut. The syrup is naturally made from hardwood forests without use of any fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Our neighbor Bill Crepps of Everything Under the Sun will have a large variety of dried organic fruits and vegetables available, and Nigel's 15-year-old son Eric will have his homemade brownies for sale, too. Last year this was a great success, so please take the opportunity to see your farm in late fall. Of course Mary Lou, Ginger Rose, Ferdie, Stella, and the chickens will be taking visitors.
On Sunday you are welcome to harvest the following vegetables:
- Bok Choy
- Cabbage (Wakefield, Green, Red, and Napa)
- Daikon Radishes
- Green Onions
From storage, you can buy:
- Blue Hubbard Squash
- Butternut Squash
- Delicata Squash
- Spaghetti Squash
- Sweet Potatoes
- And lots of other decorative heirloom varieties for your Thanksgiving table!
What to Bring:
- a reusable water bottle
- comfortable shoes and/or boots (It's going to be muddy in the field!)
- a rain jacket and sweatshirt
- garden gloves and a knife for harvesting vegetables
- cash, credit cards (Visa or MasterCard), or checks
It's very important NOT to bring any pets. They are not allowed on the farm at all, not even in your vehicle. Our guard dog is trained to attack coyotes and other dogs, and we don't want to risk any confusion or injuries to your pets.
The weather is predicted to be in the 60s with a chance of rain. Don't worry, though! The farmhouse will be warm and toasty. Just be sure to bring boots for the mud and a rain jacket.
Directions from the Bay Area:
Take I-80 East toward Sacramento. After you pass Vacaville, take exit 64 for Pitt School Road. Turn left onto Pitt School Road and left onto Sievers Road. The farm will be on your right, and it is noticeable because there are eight rows of tall poplar trees and an earth-covered home.
Directions from Davis/Sacramento:
Take I-80 West. Exit at Pedrick Road. Drive straight through the first intersection (after stopping at the sign, of course!) — go between the two gas stations. Drive straight down Sievers Road for about 5 to 6 miles. We’re on the north side of the road with the rows of tall poplar trees spaced out along the property and an earth-covered home. Turn into the driveway and follow the signs to the festivities!
