our farm

Who Are We?

Eatwell Farm is a 70 acre organic farm in the Sacramento Valley in Northern California. In 1998 we were lucky enough to be able to buy 65 acres 3 miles north of Dixon. We also continue to lease a five acre orchard we planted in 1993 four miles north of the home farm. We have been farming organically here in Northern California since 1993. All the land is certified organic by California Certifeid Organic Farmers (CCOF). We grow hundreds of different crops, and usually several of each in order to allow for a constant harvest for our CSA.

Would you like to know the current weather conditions on the farm? We host school visits, students and researchers through a variety of programs. Watch short videos from the farm.

Frances was born in Chicago, grew up in North Carolina and earned a hisory degree from Duke University. She worked as a computer programmer for Morgan Stanley in New York City before coming west in 1986 to try a new line of work: food. She worked at Chez Panisse and Cafe' Fanny in Berkeley, California, where she developed a true love of food. In 1990 she moved to the Capay Valley (50 miles northwest of Davis), where she learned organic farming at Full Belly Farm. As a founder, Frances' legacy continues, though she is no longer involved in the farm.

Nigel was born in Leicester, England, and studied at Writtle Agricultural College in Essex. Though the school taught production farming with chemicals, Nigel received permission to fullfill his practicum at an organic farm in Kent, England. He travelled to Israel in 1985 to study drip irrigation in a country where "if you waste water it's treason." He returned to England and farmed there until moving to California in 1992 where he worked at Terra Firma Farm in Winters.

Eric and Andrew are Frances and Nigel's twin sons. At eight years old, they love to help on the farm. Most Tuesday evenings they insist on helping to pack boxes of produce for our CSA, in part because it always means they get to stay up a little longer. They busy themselves with Little League and schoolwork from their Spanish Immersion elementary.

Chris is Eatwell Farm's lavender lady. She helped create many of our lavender products, such as lavender salt, lavender and calendula sugar scrub, and lavender and calendula salve, which we sell throughout the year at farmer's market and through our lavender website.
