P8030043Augustine has been saving the seed of the tomato plants for us this year. The crew mark the exceptional plants in the field. I then come along and check and taste them. If they pass then I write a code on the flagging tape. Augustine picks the fruit, strips out the seeds and labels the jar with the code. After a couple of days of fermenting he tips the jar into a paint straining bag and washes the seed to remove all the pulp. The label then follows the seed into the drying tray. Once the seed is dry, about four days, the label is put into a ziplok bag with the seed. It is a simple process but one that is very important to acclimatizing the tomato plants to Eatwell Farm. We see the results each year with better fruit quality and yield.
