Pa030022 the corn ear worm. They ‘kiss’ almost every ear and devour too many. Other than spraying the crop every three days there is really nothing that I can find to control this pest. Any control method has to the practical, economical and reliable. We have tried cutting the end of the ear and this only causes the ear to dry out.
My plan for this year is to grow only the two earliest crops. The pest populations build up over the summer making it more difficult to control the pest. I am looking to do some experiments and talking with other farmers about how they control the pest. I will stick with the bi-color variety ‘Ambrosia’ which everyone seemed to like. If not tell me now.
