These cow peas were grown from seed provided by Steve Temple at UC Davis. He gave us about 40 lbs which enabled us to plant just less that 1/2 acre. They will be harvested for seed in a couple of weeks. We will sow the seeds next August to give a lush, high protein field of feed for our chickens to work their way through next october and November while they are waiting for the September sown pasture to germinate and grow. They will eat the beans and foliage with gusto. This year we are just growing ourselves enough seed. Making sure the chickens have enough green plants to eat keep them happy and the quality of the eggs high.
