Anna makes sure each chick gets a drink of water as she unpacks them last Friday morning. I arrived at the post office at around 7.30 am to pick 9 boxes each containing 100 chicks. At that point they were 2 days old.

We give them a drink of water with a little organic evaporated cane sugar in it, for energy. Their first food is cracked grains which we trade out with chick crumbs on day 3 or 4. This is to start their digestive system slowly so that they do not get diarrhea. The heat lamps are on 24/7 until about 5 weeks when it will be warm enough for them to be comfortable without them.

Below Agustin finishing up painting the inside of their home before they arrived. The pressure wash inside then repaint for every new flock to keeping looking good and prevent disease.
