Strawberries: These berries were just picked on Wednesday morning and should be eaten within a day or two. Keep them in the fridge to maintain freshness. Please return the baskets to your delivery site so they can be reused. Enjoy! Basil: It is a succulent, oh-so-aromatic herb that adds depth to many a dish! Keep your basil in a plastic bag in the fridge and use soon. If you can’t use it all this week, we suggest making pesto and freezing it for later.

Cherry Tomatoes: Enjoy this colorful mix of heirloom cherry tomatoes! These delicious candy-like treats are a welcome addition to any green salad, pasta salad, or as a quick snack. Do not store them in fridge; keep on them on the counter to maintain great flavor and texture.

Middle Eastern Cucumbers: These cucumbers boast a slightly nutty flavor and an edible skin.  There’s no need to peel these cucurbits! They are refreshing in a salad or with a little lime, yogurt, and chile. These are not waxed like store-bought cucumbers and may keep better wrapped in plastic in the fridge. Wash before eating. Delicious!

Italian Flat-Leaf Parsley: Its beautifully clean, crisp flavor adds depth to many a dish! Store in a plastic bag in the fridge and use rather quickly.

Chard: These big, beautiful leaves are mighty tasty! Remove the leaves from the stems, but make sure to eat the stems too. The stems will need to be cooked a little longer than the leaves. Store in a plastic bag in the fridge and wash well before using.

Zucchini: With a delicate flavor, these summer squash can be quickly sautéed or steamed with just a touch of oil or butter and some fresh herbs. It also goes well shredded in a salad or baked into bread.  Stores best in plastic bag in fridge and wash before eating.

Carrots: Enjoy these sweet and crunchy certified organic treats from our friends at Terra Firma Farm in Winters. Separate the greens from the roots to maintain freshness. Store in plastic bag and wash well before eating.

German Butterball Potatoes: These all-purpose potatoes have a golden skin and deep yellow flesh. They are great for steaming, mashing, baking, and frying. Store in fridge for best keeping and eat the skin for most nutrients! Wash before eating.

Red Cabbage: Cabbage is wonderful because it cooks quickly, is versatile, and tastes so good. Red cabbage is particularly lovely sliced thin in green salads and really brightens up a coleslaw. Store in fridge and wash well before use.

Lemon Verbena: This super fragrant herb was probably the first thing you noticed in your box this week! It may show up to you already mostly dried—it dries out within a few hours of being harvested. Don’t worry, it’s still great! Lemon verbena is often used to make a refreshing tea. Just pour hot water over the leaves and steep 10 minutes. Sweeten as needed. This herb has medicinal properties, such as calming an upset stomach and soothing nerves. Since it is known to promote a good night’s sleep, we recommend drinking a cup of lemon verbena tea before bed, not before work! Fun fact: Recchiuti Confections uses our lemon verbena for their chocolate truffles! Hang it upside down to complete the drying process. Store in a cool, dry, dark place.
