We grow one acre of this delicious crop each year. The cuttings are organically grown for us by another farmer in Turlock. We plant them in mid May. It is now 10th July and the the vine almost completely covers the ground. We have cultivated the plants since two weeks after planting with our finger weeder. The last weeding was done by hand with hoes just to remove a few larger weeds missed by the finger weeder. We irrigate the crop once per week and have been adding some fermented liquid calcium, seaweed and other organic liquid supplements to feed the crop. Last year the chickens were on this piece of ground so there is sufficient nitrogen in the soil to grow the crop. We are very proud of how well the crop looks.
We will harvest the first potatoes from these beds in early September.
