Last week we got to work making a repair to the irrigation system that had started three years ago. Our irrigation system has underground concrete pipes which had started to crack in one place. This crack ended up being almost six feet long. We could replace the piece of pipe but the better solution was to bypass the pipe and block it at both ends. We trenched 30'' deep and 6'' wide to accommodate the new 4'' pipe that takes water from the well to the irrigation system. We connected this pipe to the well. We had some professional irrigation guys come out to the farm to make the connections to the concrete pipe and block the old split pipe.
While we had the trencher on the farm we laid more pipe in the field to make it easier to water two of our fields not serviced by our pressurized water system. This will help us save labor and the pipe replacement will save water.
