Andrew and I collected 900 Rhode Island Red chicks, all females, from the post office just before eight this morning. They had just flown in from Iowa. The larger hatcheries in the Mid West are the only ones able to supply us with the number we need.
They are now running around their new home drinking water sweetened with a little organic sugar, to give them an energy boost, while also pecking at cracked organic corn.
These girls will start laying eggs in mid April.
