Navel Oranges:  These juicy treats are from our friend Nacho at Twin Girls Farm near Fresno and are QAI (Quality Assurance International) certified organic.  We’ve been friends with this family farm for a long time and see them every week at the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market and yes, they do have twin teenage girls.  They sell some of their goods to Purity, so that will explain if it has a market sticker on it.  Stores well in fridge.  Peel and enjoy! Lettuce:  Enjoy this new crop of fresh greens for salads & sandwiches.  Store in plastic bag in fridge. Remove yellow leaves & wash well before use.

Stir-Fry Mix:  Bright and beautiful!  From our transitional fields and is not (yet) certified organic.   Please contact us with questions about transitional produce & organic certification; we’re happy to explain how we keep the items separate. We finally entered our third year of transition to organic on our leased piece of land — we’ll be able to have the parcel certified sometime this month!  Chop and sautee in olive oil or butter for a lovely side-dish.  Also tasty raw.  Store in plastic bag in fridge and wash well before using.

Romanesco:  Too pretty to eat?  Beside it’s mesmerizing fractals, it tastes amazing too!  It’s hard to say if it is more like broccoli or cauliflower, but it’s actually an early precursor to both.  Store in fridge in plastic bag and wash before using.  Enjoy!

Bok Choy:  Grown in our transitional fields (see stir-fry mix above) and is not (yet) certified organic.  This crunchy and tasty bok choy is amazing sauteed and adds a little something special to a soup or stir-fry.  Store in plastic bag in fridge. Don’t forget to use the ribs!

Turnips:  This ancient veggie is one of the earliest to be cultivated and was a staple before the potato.  It is rich in fiber, calcium, and vitamins A and C.  They are from our transitional fields (see spinach above) and are not (yet) certified organic.  If they arrive with their green tops, remove and store in separate plastic bags in fridge and wash before eating.

Leeks:  These large alliums are rather mild in flavor and simply melt to perfection when sauteed.  Use in soups, stir-fry, or in place of onions in other dishes for a delicious and more subtle flavor.  The green tops are great for making stock! Store in fridge and wash very well before using.

Carrots:  Enjoy these sweet and crunchy treats.  Remove greens from roots before putting in fridge. Store in plastic bag and wash well before eating.

Kohlrabi:  This interesting veggie is related to cabbage and tastes very much like broccoli stems or the heart of a cabbage head.  It can be eaten raw and tossed into salads or make a great addition to Indian dishes.  The leaves can be eaten as well as the bulb.  Remove leaves and stems for better storage and place bulb in plastic bag in fridge.  Eat the leaves soon and wash well before consuming.

Apples:  These apples are from Smit Orchards in Linden, CA and are certified organic.  Keep in the fridge or on the counter (depending on how you like to eat them) and wash before consuming.

Butternut Squash:  Sweet and easy to prepare, this winter squash is extremely versatile and easy to peel. Store in a cool (not cold), dark, dry place. Perfect when baked. Makes great soup and bread & goes well in sautées!
