DSCF1514.JPG It may be the middle of summer but it is the time to plant winter squash seed. We have lots of varieties planted for your delight on cold winter nights. We sow the seed in rows then lay drip line over them to germinate the crop. Once the seeds emerge we pull up the tape, cultivate and thin in the row to a plant every two feet or so. The drip line is then laid back down and remains there until harvest.

We have also planted some pretty weird squash for our pumpkin party in October. Last year we had some wonderful pumpkins and then every one went for the unusual varieties that we bought from Seed Savers exchange. It seems you like the strange stuff. No fear there will be plenty more this year.
