Strawberries: These berries were just picked on Wednesday morning and should be eaten within a day or two. Keep them in the fridge to maintain freshness. Please return the baskets to your delivery site so they can be reused. Enjoy! Mixed Lettuce: Enjoy these fresh greens for salads and sandwiches! It is a mix of red-leaf, green-leaf and Romaine lettuces. Store in plastic bag in fridge and wash well before consuming.
Cherry Tomatoes: Enjoy this colorful mix of heirloom cherry tomatoes! These delicious candy-like treats are a welcome addition to any green salad, pasta salad, or as a quick snack. Do not store them in fridge; keep on them on the counter to maintain great flavor and texture.
Heirloom Tomatoes: We have Brandywines, Piriform, Lemon Boys, Copias, Purple Calabash and Green Zebras just to name a few. These make a killer bruschetta, fresh Caprese salad, or BLT sandwich. These beauties should be stored on the counter (belly button down) and eaten soon. Wash well and enjoy!
Plums or a Melon: Our orchard had a rough time this year with late season rain in the spring, but a few of the plum trees fruited, and we wanted to share them with you! To further ripen plums, if slightly firm, store in paper bag on the counter for a day or so. If you received a melon, it is fragile and must be eaten soon. Store in fridge and consume with delight!
Roma, Shady Lady or Early Girl Tomatoes: The Shady Lady and Early Girl tomatoes are great slicing varieties with a lot of vine-ripe flavor, and the Romas are a tasty paste tomato that is great for sauce! Always store tomatoes on the counter “belly button” down. Wash before eating and enjoy!
Basil: It is a succulent, oh-so-aromatic herb that adds depth to many a dish! Keep your basil in a plastic bag in the fridge. If you can’t use it all this week, we suggest making pesto and freezing it for later.
Chard: These big, beautiful leaves are mighty tasty! Remove the leaves from the stems, but make sure to eat the stems too. The stems will need to be cooked a little longer than the leaves. Store in a plastic bag in the fridge and wash well before using.
Italian Flat-Leaf Parsley: Its beautifully clean, crisp flavor adds depth to many a dish! Store in a plastic bag in the fridge. If you can’t use it right away, try freezing it in a Ziploc bag for making veggie stock later in the year.
Gypsy Peppers: These sweet and versatile peppers have an irresistible crunch are a great addition to salads. They are also perfect for stuffing or frying! Store in crisper in fridge and wash before eating.
Zucchini: With a delicate flavor, these summer squash can be quickly sautéed or steamed with just a touch of oil and some fresh herbs. It also goes well shredded in a salad or baked into bread. Stores best in plastic bag in fridge and wash before eating.
Kerr’s Pink or Colorado Rose Potatoes: Kerr’s Pink are rosy-skinned potatoes with a creamy white flesh, which has a floury texture when cooked. They are best boiled, mashed or roasted. The Colorado Rose potatoes are red-skinned and have an absolutely delicious flavor. Try them roasted with rosemary salt or in a potato salad. They work well in any red potato recipe. Store in fridge for best keeping and eat the skin for most nutrients! Wash before eating.
