Before and after (below) pruning our table grapes. It was too windy to plant last Saturday so Jose and the crew took care of this task. We always wait until we see the first signs of growth. By pruning now we delay the flowers so they miss any chance of frost. We cut the growth back to two buds, leaving one branch or spur as they are called every 6 inches. We must not overload the vine or the fruit and bunch size will suffer. Eventually we will trim the bunches so that we have on every foot. The red trap is for a pest that the county agricultural commissioner is watching on all grape plantings.
