This is not your ordinary garden mower it chews up any vegetation in its path into very small pieces. These are incorporated into the soil and the soil microfauna gets to work on breaking them down quickly. One indication that you have a healthy soil is how quickly this vegetation is consumed in the soil. We can go from beds like these to plantable beds in two weeks.
This mower cost us $5500 in 1995, a great deal of money when we had just been farming for a couple of years. We bought the ‘industrial strength’ model and have been very happy that we did. There is 2,000 lbs of steel in this and all we have had to change are the blades and bearings over the years. It really does pay to buy good strong equipment even though the price can hurt initially.
