When we moved the chickens out of the orchard in April but there were a handful that evaded capture. They continued to live in th orchard. A few disappeared and now one has resurfaced with six baby chicks. She was spotted amongst some old boxes. The crew used some other things to give her added protection. Last Tuesday the chicks hatched and today they took there first walkabout with Mum once everyone had left for the day. The mother is a Rhode Island Red but from the looks of the chicks it looks like the father is an Aracana. She is very protective so will not allow us to get too near. We are leaving her to her own devices. There have not been any Coyotes around for several weeks so we will not try to move them to safer quarters just yet.
