Every year we are inspected by our certification agency which is California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). Our next inspection is this coming Tuesday, so I am making sure all my ducks are in a row. The inspection has two parts: paperwork and a walk around the farm. The inspector can and does go through our accounts and farming records. We have to keep detailed records of what we do here on the farm. This is not always easy when so much is going on in the heat of the summer, but we do our best.
At this inspection I am adding the leased land own by the Erwin Family in Dixon to our organic operation. I am also taking advantage of the new electronic forms for all our records etc. I started this last fall and am trying to complete it in time for this inspection. I am a farmer not a form filler, but alas that excuse does not fly. I have just completed updating 15 documents so I gave myself the break to write this blog. Now back to finish some more.
